I wish you were MY teacher! By Jennifer K.

I've been student teaching this week, and I know nothing! Everyone I know is having this wonderful experience and I feel that I know nothing about my teacher, the school, or the kids. She never even introduced me to the kids| in the class. So, they don't even know my name. She has shown me how to do two things... how to grade papers and how to enter them in her grade book. That's about all I've done. She has rules for her class that I don't know about (which water fountain to drink from for example) and if a student asks me for permission, I do what seems reasonable, but then it turns out to be the wrong | | thing and the student gets in trouble. I try to explain that it was my fault, but she just says, "Well, he knows we don't do it that way." WELL I DON'T!!!! She talked about us putting up a word wall, but that turned out to be me doing EVERYTHING. Her help was, "I'll stand down here and make sure everything is straight and evenly spaced." So, I stood on the ladder in my dress clothes while she analyzed the placement of all 26 letters of the alphabet. My advice, tell her everything, ask about her, tell her about you. Let her know that you are nervous too. Show her step by step how you go through the procedures. What seems routine to you will be completely unfamiliar to her. OK that's my little rant for the evening! Good luck!
