    Love my private school!

I am a private school teacher and I love it. I wouldn't trade my position for the extra money that I could make in the public schools. There are many single teachers that make it on their private school teaching income.
As for state tests, I'm not sure where you live, but if you want to be an accredited school, you must take the state tests here in Indiana. Our school prides itself on having higher tests scores than most of the public schools, even though we're working on a much smaller budget.
Like you said, the students tend to be a little better behaved because you have a little more parental support. The parents wouldn't pay to send their child to your school if they didn't believe in and support the teachers. There are always exceptions to this everywhere.
I think all schools are different depending upon the administration. The school where I work is fantastic. We have a great leader who not only supports us, but also encourages us to be better teachers. She raises the bar so that we strive to attain those higher standards.
Are there budget problems in your area? I know that many of the first year teachers in our area were laid off because of government cuts in programs. If there are not those problems in your area, then public schools do usually have much better long term benefits. They also usually have union backup. Private school teacher have no tenure.
I wish you good luck in your search. I would love to hear which direction you go and why!
