Math Baseball is fun. I play with my fourth graders. We use it to practice multiplication. But, since you have second grade, they could practice addition. Here's how to play.Students need two dice, a baseball diamond | (construction paper with little bases on it) and four small markers/pennies/chips/people to be the players. They can play in teams or with a partner. Make a little chart that they can fill out as they go along. It could have 3 innings, a space for runs for each team and a space for outs for each team. Something like this: INNING 1 2 3 Total Team | | 1 Runs Outs Team 2 Runs Outs They also need the following rules for play (which I have adapted to addition) Player one (or team one) rolls the dice (AKA pitches to the other team) and Player two (or team two) adds the numbers together and get to move a player based on the roll IF they answer the question correctly. An incorrect answer is an out. RUNS: 2 to 4: OUT 5 to 7: Single (move one base) 8 to 10: Double (move two bases) 10 to 11: Triple (move three bases) 12: Home Run! You play until three innnings are completed and the team with the most runs wins. My kids played this with multiplication today and they LOVED it. If something doesn't make since, let me know. I tried to explain it the best I could. It's a really simple game, but I'm still frazzled from the week!
