"students"
By Kaiagal

Clip to ScrapBook
Jennifer,
I believe this is a vent, because there is a child in the class that I observe who portrays a similar behavior.(I am a student teacher) This child is in second grade and has been tested and approved for a program
that his parents aren't accepting of. It only hurts him in the long run. He is seven years old and has the mentality of a four year old. He is always in trouble, and the children know this-so they constantly pick on him, and then blame him because they know the teacher will believe it's his fault. One day in the cafeteria he dropped his apple, picked it up, wiped it off and began to
eat it. The students really harassed him. I felt bad because he was only doing the right thing. The teacher learned of this, and made him a "martyr" of sorts, to help him understand that he did a good thing and the other children were wrong. She put him at the front of the line and made him a class leader. It has really helped his self esteem and behavior, but guess what? He has turned into a "mini monster". Now he tattles on everyone for EVERY LITTLE THING! This is becoming annoying to the teacher, but we just laugh because at least now he has self esteem and respect. Now we just need to work on his "superior to all complex". Perhaps we have created a monster. But even children who aren't labeled, or don't have a peticular problem per say, tend to highlight what others are doing wrong even if it is the "pot calling the kettle black". I think it's just the nature of the beast.
