Financial woes By Jami

I subbed for 3 1/2 years, and was not hired by the district I subbed for. I also had a 2nd job during this time. I worked at least 60 hrs a week. 3 nights a week, subbing Mon-Fri, working most weekends. Afetr 3 years,| this really took it's toll. I was able to move out before I subbed, and was able to maintain my apartment. I also was able to buy a fairly new car. I had to work 60+ hours to do it. I felt that this year, when I didn't get hired that I just couldn't live like that anymore. I was tired of being cranky/miserable every day, just plain tired. I got a job this year teaching preschool, | | making the same as a public school teacher, and I LOVE it! I work about 50 hours now, but I work only 1 night and 1 weekend day at my 2nd job (40 hrs at the preschool job). I feel so much better, and I am better off financially. My advice to you is to hang in as long as you can, but don't let yourself get too tired or sick. (I was sick constantly last year, no doubt because of the long hours). If you feel after some time that you can't do it anymore, try looking for an alternative. The poster above you suggested that you might not get hired because you are a sub, and they want you that way, etc. I can say that it is most likely why I didn't get hired, but I know of other subs who have gotten hired. Hang in there, it will all work out! Sorry so long!
