Length of time in Special Education Field: 12 yearsHow did you arrive at this career choice? I began in the regular ed teacher's program and was placed in a classroom where the teacher had been trained by Ortan-Gillingham | and the whole process of teaching children a different way caught my attention and I was hooked What challenges you most about this job? knowing how to reach a child's particular need...and when to know that it's time to quit that method and try another...and that my room has stopped being a traditional LD classroom and has become a dumping ground for kids who won't or can't accept | | their child's disability and force their chidren into my classroom because all my children look "normal"Where do you see yourself in ten years?retired...I began teaching at a later age than most Where do you see Special Education headed? well, funding is a problem so I don't see good things happening that's for sure What do you think of Mainstreaming? I think children should be mainstreamed daily in what ever area they can be successful in for as long as they can remain successful. What kind of guidelines would you offer the parents of a child entering your program/class? what do you mean by guidelines for whom? the parents or the child Do you feel you receive adequate support from the following? School District definately Parents from the majority of mine yes Social services not in the least State Government - the money they contribute to my program is ok but they don't really give me any support besides that Federal Government likewise with the feds
