Crate training
By Jamie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hey,

I have been following along with your posts about your dog. When we (boyfriend and I) got our chocolate lab 2 years ago we were both still in college. At that time we knew that we had to crate train her because
she was just 10 weeks old, she would not be able to hold her bladder very long and we knew she would mess on the carpet. We did not want that so crate training was the best thing for all of us. At night in the beginning we put her in her crate next to our bed so she would get used to being in there. After a week she loved her crate. That became her "safe place". Whenever a stranger
would come to the house or someone bothered her she went straight to her kennel and layed down. We would find that sometimes while we were there she would take a toy and go to her kennel to rest. We kept her in there everytime we left the house until she was about a year old. Then, we would leave the door to her kennel open and most of the time when we came home we would find her laying in the kennel (if she didn't greet us at the door). So what I am trying to say here is that crates really are a good thing for most dogs. It can be their "getaway place".

Are you able to leave the crate on one floor of your house and leave the husky on another floor so the crated dog does not see the other one wandering around?? Dogs are great friends, Maggie is a member of our family, we treat her like she is our child.

BTW have you tried leaving rawhides out for the dog to gnaw on??
