petty sub By Lisa

I have to agree with the others who responded, I have been subbing for 3 years and let's just say that I think any sub can think of at least one instance when they felt like slipping out the back door when they saw the plans| they were left to work with or felt like saying something to the office. This permanent sub must have thought that it would look good to put you down and say that you left lousy plans in order to make his performance look better and make himself out to be a martyr. In reality, this did him a great disservice b/c I'm sure they all think less of him for complaining about it. Even if you | | HAD left incomplete plans, it's his job for the day to work with it and do what he can. We can all agree that the regular teacher (in most cases) would not intentionally leave a sub with horribly sketchy or nonexistent plans because it leaves a mess for the sub, the kids and the teacher upon his/her return. I know I personally always give the benefit of the doubt and assume that an emergency came up and that the regular teacher didn't have a chance to clarify the plans. In your case there is nothing to complain about! A missing journal prompt which is available in your plan book would be such a minor problem to come across as a sub. If that happened to me and for some reason I couldn't find it on your plan book, I would simply make up a different related prompt or skip the activity all-together as a last resort and leave a note apologizing to you for not getting it done, not report YOU to the office! Unbelievable. It sounds like you'll be prepared for him next time- good for you.
