condensing, correcting, clutter.
By Liz

Clip to ScrapBook
I have taught 2nd grade for 4 years. I have had the same problem about staying late and so much work.
CONDENSING
There was so much paperwork to correct!!I never had time to correct their homework.I still give homework
Mon- Thurs., but it is not a problem to correct it anymore. I agree with the other poster..condense!!!Give less problems.
I have condensed to 5 math problems, spelling worksheet, two questions for reading homework.
(alternating sentences, abc order and practice
spelling words wrting)
It takes me about 15 minutes to correct the homework. I send it back the same day they pass
it in!!
CORRECTING
I have my students doing alot of correcting their own work that they do independently.I have them do their own papers. I am not sure about correcting others. We all correct as a whole group, then I collect the papers and look them over for mistakes, and stamp them. I enforce the rule that during "corrections" that pencils are away ( eliminates the temptation to erase and change an answer)and only a marker is used. By correcting also helps the students understand their errors better.
CLUTTER
I am still at fault for clutter..but I am much better. Try and always put things away where they belong...I do this when I ask them to pull out pages in their workbooks and put their first and last names on all sides of the paper....this buys me about 5 minutes to get things put away.
I always try to leave my desk as I wouldn't be coming in the next day and a sub would be taking over. This thought helps me to keep my desk organized and neat.
I hope some of these suggestions help!!!
Have a terrific school year!!
Liz
