team teaching By Janice

Hi Katherine, Team teaching is different but if you can look at it in a different way. Dont look at it as if you guys are both seperate and get into the titles. If both of you can treat each other as equals it will go| a lot smoother. Help with lesson plans and show her what you are capable of and talk to her and give her examples, like if you were lead teacher somewhere you would treat you assistant as if she was a teacher with the same degree.Just add it in the conversation.Sometimes teachers let their degree go to their head and you have to remind them that you both are here for the same reason to teach | | children and let children have a wonderful school experience. I have been team teaching for three yrs now in a preschool program and the teacher and I have a good team. We might not be good team players when it comes to the other preschool programs that are in our building but as far as what we do together in our room she allows me to bring in ideals on the lesson plans and if I would like to teach she allows me it is not required of me but she encourages me and I put my input in on filling out paperwork on certain children through the year and even give my opinion on the report cards. I wish you luck it takes time and patience to team teach but it can work if you guys talk through things. Always keep the communication open. I thing we try is to ask at the end of everyday how we thought the day went and was their anything we would of change and was there anything that was bothering us and that kept our communication going. We are not personal friends outside of work but we do work well and together as a team at work. Wish you luck. Jancie
