Phone Number Hop
By Barb

Clip to ScrapBook
My kids LOVE this activity...I used felt squares and cut out numbers with felt and glued the numbers onto the felt. Then I lay the felt squares on the floor, like a telephone key pad. The kids take their shoes off and they
jump around the key pad to type their phone number in. You can start with a visual cue to help them, then fade to a verbal cue, then back away and watch them hop around on their own! One of my kids learned it within 2 days this way!!!

We also played phone number bingo with our phone numbers. I use tag board cut in half, the hot dog way. I write their phone numbers on (or have them trace

it) then I use bingo markers or stickers as I call a number (0-9) and they mark off that number. Who ever gets their whole number covered first calls "ring ring!" and they read off their number.

Another idea is taking a cut out of a telephone base (i have a copy from one of my Mailbox Arts and Crafts books) They color it and cut it out. Then I cut sponges into the shapes of the key pads and write the numbers 0-9 on them. They place the numbered sponges on the phone and then it gives them a tactile way to dial their phone number and practice.

You can also use an old telephone to practice dialing their numbers on too! We practice this a lot at the beginning of the year.

Oh...one more. I make information books for each of my kid with visual cues. Each day in group/circle, I ask them the info as i turn the pages and they can use the visual cues to answer. i ask name, address, phone, age, birthday, bus #, school, teacher, boy/girl.

I teach elementary special ed (k-2).

Good luck! I Hope you can use these ideas!
