I do agree with you. These days kids are too busy with sports, etc... that sometimes, we forget that they should just be able to be kids. They should be able to run in the yard, climb trees (although not the safest thing),| have sleep overs, spend Saturdays around the house. Yes, my children are in sports, and gymnastics, but that is by their choice. I waiting until they came to me first. I didn't go to them and say "Baseball starts Monday, let's go sign you up." They are kids, and of coarse, they wanted to do it all, so I had to limit it. I allowed them to choose. I told my son, it is either baseball | | or karate, and my daughter had to choose between baton or gymnastics. I do know parents who enroll their children in everyting possible. I think that some of them do it to get rid of them for a while, while others may be living their dreams through their children. I know when I was younger, my mom was one of those who lived her dreams through me. I was in everything from flute lessons to piano, to sax. Sports? Cheerleading, dance, clog (tap), cross country. 4-H, Agriculture. In high school, I had to be in every club, every activity. I admit, I was miserable. That is why I am so careful with my children. I do agree that children these days are "too busy". When it interferes with education, that is where I draw the line. I hate that excuse "I can't do this or that at home because I have football practice." I tell them that they need to think what is going to take them further, to know how to read, or play football. I ge them thinking. I ask them to give me one job that doesn't require reading. It is real hard for them to think of one. I haven't yet to think of one myself. Not saying that there isn't any out there, but I can't think of one.
