Can your students sing the alphabet
I have decided that the order is not as important and long as they know the letter name and the sound that the letter or letter combinations make. This year we are using Jolly Phonics where we learn very quickly one letter/sound a day. The order is set up to help children build some words quickly. ck, e, h, r, m, d g, o, u, l, f, b ai, j, oa, ie, ee, or z, w, ng, v, oo(book), oo (moon) y, x, ch, sh, th (voiced - feather), the (unvoiced - thumb) qu, ou, oi, ue, er, ar Just so you know Jolly Phonics dose not promote teaching the letter names but I found that to be a problem so we do the letter name the sounds and the motion which connects to the story from the JP program. Becasue these students are all repeaters I am moving faster then if it was K. I plan to go back and spend a week (6 day cycle) on each letter/sound once we cover them quickly first. I'll try and connect this with my Spelling program. I also plan to use the Blended Sound and Sight program after we get all the Jolly Phonics sounds covered. I think this should help my group catch up - I hope. I also use Phonics Fundamentals by Evan-Moore. I have Vol. 1 and this year just got Vol. 2. I love these resources! sdwl
