can i get a drink. i am finished with my work. when he would ask a sentence another student would take him to the bathroom etc. so he knew what he was saying. i gave him a list of activities to be done everyday. he had to check them off. the list was wrtten in spanish and english. I also got some books on word families that he could work out of and sight word books also. because he was transcribing sentences daily he learned the format and soon i had him writing sentences with sight words. when students were done with work early I had them read to him from picture books, I also had them quiz him with flash cards. tyhere are some great flash cards for action words, like ask, paste, jump, that have pictures you can get. I bought some books that were wrtitten in both english and spanish. after reading them a few times i had him try to read in english. Then i had him transcribe sentences from the book in english and spanish. as the language developed i gave him word cards and he had to make sentences with the cards and then makes paragrapghs. as far as math that is another struggle, my students had had more math then your student has it sounds like. have her learn the basics of what you are laerning geometry, fractions etc. while you supplement the subtraction, multiplication, division stuff. i would keep her for a few minutes at recess or lunch and go over the math skills you are supplementing. if you need any more help let me know. this may sound crazy but last yaer my student score basic for fourth grade!!!! CA has far below basic, below basic, basic, proficient, and advanced. so he came along way! good luck this really does seem to work.....
