Don't be stressed.
By BN

Clip to ScrapBook
If I am reading your post correctly you are saying the principal is not much for praise and you can't vent in the faculty room. He definitely has a problem with staff that are not happy or have some type of concern. He just
tells them to go! Eventually he will run out of staff. Part of being an administrator is dealing with the staff and their problems. There is not much you can do about a principal that needs major help in how to deal with his staff. But there is one good thing about this --you now know how he feels about this situation. It is better to know where he is coming from than to be in the dark and
stumble into some problems without knowing. You can be proactive and try to avoid any messy problems. So I would be the best teacher I could be and I would avoid any "danger areas"in school i.e. talking in the faculty room. This is my advice because I really don't think there is any thing you can do to change the principal's attitude and the atmosphere in school.Do not fret over something you can not control.DO NOT WASTE YOU ENERGY ON THIS. You were a good teacher last year and the year before the only thing that has changed is the grouchy* people you work for and with. (*Grouchy is the only G rated word that comes to mind, sorry. LOL )You have control over your class so I would spend all my energy in school making this the best class and school year ever. Then in the spring or whenever they do transfers in your district I would TRANSFER TO ANOTHER SCHOOL for the next school year. Since he doesn't like any problems and you don't want to put yourself through the aggravation I would wait until later in the school year so you can leave without having much contact with Mr Wonderful Principal. I like this scenario--After your transfer comes through you can say to Mr Principal "Surprise! I've taken a transfer to xyz school and will be teaching abc grade. It's been interesting teaching at your school. Good luck. Bye."

You are an experienced teacher and another school will be happy to have you.

Is there a teacher that you can talk to in confidence? Find one teacher that feels the way you do and use each other as sounding boards. It doesn't have to be someone in the same grade level. It might be better if this person isn't at the same level. You can act as positive reinforcers for each other. Having a confidante on the faculty is helpful in stressful situations.

Hope the above helps.
