I begin the first week of school with a cowboy theme. "Rounding up Kindergartners" to my "Kindergarten Corral" involves sending a postcard asking each child to wear a cowboy item such as a bandanna, a hat, or denim. I specify, "No guns, please." It's easy for parents to find these items and it's a real ice breaker as we sit around a campfire I made with twigs and a flashlight and sing songs and get to know each other. We have a rootin', tootin' time!
