homework check- in

I collected homework as I took roll in the morning. I called their name, they said hot or cold, turned in money as they needed, and turned in their homework. That way I could mark it down quickly and it also got them in the habit of bringing a folder every day for notes and things even if we didn't have homework that night. Also I preferred to do a weekly homework packet just because it was easier for me- less paper work. Other teachers like the every night assignments so whatever works for you.
