centers

I have centers during my reading time and have students rotate through about every 20 minutes. I set a timer, when the timer beeps, we rotate. They know that if they were with me they go to the green center next, then to computers and finally to seatwork. I spend a LOT of time working with the kids on transition during the first few weeks and accept NO talking (while they move centers). We make a game out of it, see which group can move the quietest (they'll get a small prize sometimes). HTH a littel
