Just a suggestion, I also teach fourth grade and do pen pals with another fourth in my district. It worked out really well, because at the end of the year we did a picnic together and they got to meet in person. We sent pictures and letters back and forth. We also planned a mutual field trip that we both took our kids to. Very authentic reason for writing, If you have a district that is big enough and can find another fourth grade across town. Just a suggestion if you cant work it out with someone from another state. Why not both?
