    I'm not very creative (that's why I'm here) but one thing I did think of was at the beginning of the year rather than doing a seating chart right away and hopefully getting the little groups split up, I take an object - could be a heart - and cut it into two parts. One part is put on the desk. I then line the students up outside in the hall on the first day. As they walk into the room, they are each handed the other half and have to match it to find a seat. The kids love it and it does help to split up any little clics.
