I teach next door to a 6th grade teacher and he also used a points system. He gave points for absolutley everything and the kids really bought into it. Points for getting back to class from an assembly and sitting quiet the first, having pencils out first, you name it he gave quick point on the board. He said that it didn't take much time and it really helped with behavior. He would give small group prizes once a group earned 300 points or a set number of points. Give it a try , it worked great for him, especially towards the end of the year
