Seed ideas

I have collected stories about how authors got their "seed ideas" for their stories. Marc Brown got his start telling his son bedtime stories, for instance, and that is how he came to write the Arthur series. I have these cute little seed pictures and I ask students to think of some ideas they would like to write about. They keep a list of ideas for writing on their seed page. In the beginning I start my minilesson with a little bio about an author and his/her seed idea for a story to inspire students to write. As they begin to write, I see what they need to plan my upcoming minilessons.
