Welcome to 5th! This is my 2nd year to teach it and I enjoyed it last year! These are the books I read with my class that they really liked:

Holes (my favorite)
The Westing Game (mystery)
Where the Red Fern Grows (their favorite)
The Cay (historical fiction - WWII)
Number the Stars (also WWII historical fiction)
Brian's Winter (sequel to Hatchet)
Brian's Return (another sequel - they requested it!)
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (funny!)

You'll have fun the Mailbox magazine The Cay was featured in the book in I believe the May/June issue of this year.
