NYS assessments

Teaching fourth grade in NYS is a challenge. I was very stressed out last year. I tell the kids on the first day that in my class they will work hard, but we always play hard too. For example after the ELA test was over we had a Winter fun Day and played outside, had hot chocolate and just relaxed. We often have Read Ins where the kids bring a blanket and pillow from home and they kick back with a book for a good part of the day. As far as prep, we try to integrate the skills into the curriculum and not stress the kids out by constantly saying this is test prep.
