Wow I'm so impressed with wanting a to do a weekly letter. I'm lucky if I write a please send in... letter. I have homework folders that go home daily. It's really easy to just slip the 2 pages in it. I also have a parent sign sheet where they can ask or tell me things stapled to the folder. If I send home a letter, I always make it a different color than the homework papers. This helps I think. I am going to try at least a monthly letter this year. This will be my 3rd year in first grade. I feel much more organized than before so I think I'm ready. We'll see.
