homework troubles
By deb

Clip to ScrapBook
I have a real problem with assigning homework in kindergarten. For many children, the school day is already long enough (we have a full day program with a strong academic basis). Kids need time to play and spend time with their families. Most parents that I talk to appreciate my "no homework" policy, especially those who have children in the upper grades, where homework assignments have become increasingly complicated and lengthy. At conferences, I encourage parents to read daily with their children, visit the library often, and play a variety of games with their kids to promote sportsmanship, fair play, thinking skills, and cooperation. If a parent presses for extra work, I suggest the various workbooks available at any of the teacher supply stores.
