Dressing professional doesn't mean you need to wear dresses and skirts everyday, especially in first grade. Slacks are perfectly fine. Just because you're a student teacher doesn't mean you shouldn't dress the part of teacher. Although I've worked with some teachers whom dress more like the students. Look like a teacher, act like a teacher and get treated like a teacher. My advice is to dress nicely - no
t-shirts, or old looking jeans. Keep the gym shoes for the gym. Sandals are fine (no flip flops) with any outfit on a warm day. Teachers, parents and the principal will notice so dress the way you want to be perceived - like a professional.
Good luck in your first grade assignment and have fun.
