Let me be the first to say I think you are right. I was offered a position as a reading specialist though I had no training. I told them what I thought of this idea (not much), and they have hired someone who is trained and very helpful both to us teachers and to the kids. Why do they do it? Because they can pay less to someone who isn't trained and because they can (sometimes) get away with it. I know this doesn't help you get a job, but I hope it makes you feel a little better to know that there are people out there who agree with you. I'm sure you will find something eventually. Just keep plugging away.
