Clip to ScrapBook
I teach grade 2 and work on the "changes" concepts mainly through a research project on personal family history - kids interview grandparents etc to find out any immigration history or old family stories (be sensitive to any adoptees you may have). We also read a lot of stories about early times like "When I was young in the Mountains", "Sarah Morton's Day" and a whole series of books about old time schools.games, forts etc. We do Then and Now pictures, write about life without electricity, once we had an "old fashioned day" with period clothes, lunch in a little basket, homemade horn books and a spelling bee. I never quite get the "lingo" of standards but I think you can fit in lots of different approaches.
