There is a great book called "The First Days of School", by Wong. It is a great book, and has really helped me. I am going to start my 5th year of teaching, and I have practically read the book over again this summer. It will give you many ideas on how to do things the 1st day as well as the rest of the school year. Good l do not forget to introduce your rules and expectations of them. This age group has the right balance. They are old enough for you to do advanced things with them but yet younge enough to be able to do parties and all of the fun stuff. Good Luck Kim.
