morning work
By Susan/5th

Clip to ScrapBook
I always give either a journal or a handwriting sheet in the morning when they first arrive. They get so sloppy with their writing and try to get "fancy", so they need handwriting practice. I bought a book geared for the upper grades. It also has grammar skills involved in it. I don't have it with me, though. Our school requires SSR time, so that's when I do mine. They had a hard time staying on task with it, until I had them start keeping a reading log. They have to write the name of the book and how long they read. They never know when I'm going to check it so they keep it up-to-date and it keeps them on-task. It also helps them wake up!
