Well first, if you're in a unionized state, inform your union rep of the appalling conditions.

Second, I know you want to make a good impression in your first year, and you want the custodians on your side, but honestly, the steam must be ready to come out of your ears! If the music materials aren't out by August 6th, take them out, stack them in the hallway, and if anyone asks smile and pat his arm and tell him (or her)oh my you feel so bad about that but you kinda needed room for THE STUDENTS' STUFF!!! Buy some hooks, put them up, and don't say anything about it.

Geesh. I am so lucky I work in a school with a fantastic custodial staff (and I work in the South Bronx!!)
