Clip to ScrapBook
I know I use lots of word building for my more challenging first graders. I use magnetic letters and letter cards, letter stamps etc. I stick with a sequence of sounds introduced and then build words from there. For example I may start with /s/ /t/ /an/ /a/ and a few more. I can make words with the at family etc I also use dry erase boards with the kids. I know there are many more, I'll try to think of some more. I also use cookie sheets with the magnetic letters and the kids build their words on them. When I introduce phonemic sounds I teach the kids the patterns and build from there. My school system uses Open Court Reading and it is really phonics based. Sorry this is so long I hope I gave you some help.
