I have homework folders. (first grade) They go home nightly except on Friday. There are times when we have papers that need to get home that day so the parents know the folder is going home and to look through it. I know many do not. I started a sheet where the parents were to sign it nightly. This worked for some of the parents - those who really support their child. Many didn't sign it. I also have a sheet stapled in the folder where they can jot me a note if needed. This was very handy. I looked at the folder everyday and was able to answer them back quickly. For your 2nd question., I always read my children's newsletters from school. I'm going to start a newsletter this year. I found them informative. I will have a monthly letter.
