File folder games
By Cindy Lindsey

Clip to ScrapBook
Gail
These games are ment to be fun. You can teach phonics through these games. Phonemic Awareness is very important, but 2nd graders should be able to ditinguish sounds of letters. There are some books you can get
as resoures, Phonics They Use, Making Words, and a textbook being used in college called, Words Their Way. The last book has games in it and a CD to help design file folder games for the classrooms.
You can use these games everyday. If you have students that finish early. They are best used after you have introduced a unit and want to expand on the unit.
Have the rules for the
games posted on the front and laminate the parts so they will servive. Most are fashion after Candyland, Gofish, or memory, but the books I have suggested give step-by-step instruction.

Good Luck
