eating with the regulars
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
When I subbed, I ate in the lunchroom with the regular teachers. I have to say that it was VERY awkward for me in some of the schools, since I was just an occasional visitor. I used to eat and avoid the gossip. I didn't
offer my opinions on anything. I stayed, ate my lunch, and minded my own business. I was friendly to the teachers if they talked with me about various things.

You might want to eat with the teachers. They may think you're being friendly and trying to fit in. If you don't, they might think you're standoffish. I think it depends upon the faculty at the schools where you sub. If

it makes you feel too uncomfortable to eat with the regular teachers, eat in the classroom. I think it would help the others get to know you better, though, if you ate with them.
