    Teaching PreK to read

There are so many ways to incorporate early literacy into a PreK program. One of the easiest and fastest is to use picture and word cards to label everything in the classroom. Refer to the cards often throughout the day. Using student names is another way. We begin each circle with name id games. After the class can recognize their name, then we go to talking about letters in names and which names begin with the same letters,we count the letters in each name, produce the beginning sound of each child's name, etc.
We also do a lot with journaling and class books. We use a predictable text book like Polar Bear, Polar Bear and then we make up our own version of it.

I hope this gives you some insight. There are some great resources out there for beginning literacy.
    Good luck and happy teaching.
