You might increase interest if you play a game similar to 20 questions with your students. After introducing the title, students can ask you specific questions about the book. (Example: Who is the story about? Where does| the story take place? Why is that wolf hiding behind the tree on the cover?) Later in the day, you might let the students take a peek at the remaining pictures. They can continue to ask questions. You answer their questions (Which means you have to know the story ahead of time). Afterwards, you ask them to make predictions. After reading the story, you have them confirm their predictions. | |
This "game" works better later in the school year after you've modeled story language (characters, setting, problem, solution, etc.). I have found that anticipation builds throughout the day. Sometimes, the students will ask me individual questions during snack or recess. I hope this helps.
