School starts late for us
By LynneinVA

Clip to ScrapBook
Where I teach in Newport News, the teachers go back on August 25 for a week of prep and meetings. The children come the day after Labor Day, according to state law. It means we don't get out of school until June 17th or so
most years. However, many teachers at my school have been back to do things in their rooms and the week of the 18th will see even more people getting a jump on the year. We seem to use that prep week more for meetings than prep time and we hold an Open House on that Friday to meet our new students.Even though many things are changing due to the often misguided Leave No Child Behind Act,
I'm still excited about the new year ahead.I'm grateful for this wonderful site where I find so many ideas and get such a good overall view of education worldwide.
