Our librarian lets the students who are reading chapter books check out those smaller .5 point books for classroom reading only. That way they can read their chapter book at home (or at school) but if they feel like they're
missing out on points they can read a few .5 books too.

Also, everyone has a different point goal in my room. I teach 5th grade and my reading levels vary from pre primer to 7th grade. I usually set goals every month or so and make them different for everyone. Then whoever reached their goal regardless of how many points that was gets a reward.... ice cream, pencil, bag of popcorn...

That way even if one of my LD kids only has 10 points and others have 30 but he still made his goal for that month, he gets the reward too.
