Don't mind reasonable dress codes By Amie

I grew up in schools with dress codes, so they really don't bother me. I currently teach in a K-8 school that has (in my opinion) a fairly reasonable dress code: no bathing suits, no holes in your clothes, no profanity on| T-shirts, no open-toed shoes on the playground, etc. I appreciate the dress code because it helps maintain a neat and clean appearance within the school. The only problem we run into is consistancy across the grade levels. Some things that are inappropriate for middle schoolers may be perfectly fine for kindergarteners. For example, our students are not allowed to wear spaghetti strap | | tops without something over them. This is an issue because of bra straps showing on the older girls. Of course, the little kids don't have bra straps to show, but the rule still applies to them. I understand the necessity of consistant rules, but sometimes parents get frustrated.
