poetry
By Peggy 2

Clip to ScrapBook
I recently incorporated a novel called "Love That Dog" by Sharon Creech into a 2 week poetry unit for 4th and 5th grade. I used the novel along the way as we looked at and learned about different types of poetry, and as an
illustration that poetry doesn't always have to rhyme. It is a precious book about a boy named Jack who to his horror finds that his class is about to embark upon a poetry unit involving not only reading poetry, but writing poetry as well.It would be well worth your time to check it out, if not for this year, then maybe for next year. My kids loved the book. The insight into different
forms of poetry they received, how poetry is written, and that writing poetry did not have to be like pulling teeth. It was really fun for them and for me, especially to see how they enjoyed discovering poetry.
