plant life cycle
By Wendy

Clip to ScrapBook
Here are a couple of plants that I have used in the spring with my younger students. Strawberry plants are available in the nurseries in early spring. Students can watch the plant grow and produce pretty white flowers. After
the flowers wilt away a small green strawberry is left behind where the flower used to be. The berry gets bigger and redder until its ready for picking. This doesn't take too long-I think it was a couple of weeks. I have also used the Jack and the Beanstalk story and used kidney beans. After reading the story the students plant a kidney bean in a paper cup. Students then draw a verticle
picture of Jack's House on tagboard. When the plants begin to grow, they attach the cup to the tagboard. As the plants get bigger and bigger the students can make a "Jack" and attach him to the beanstalk. Yellow flowers are produced followed by a bean pod. My kindergardeners loved this
