Grade warmups occasionally
By Dawn

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi,

I did something a little wacky. Every few weeks, I would wonder, out loud, if I should collect the warm-ups to grade them. (My kids had a composition book that was just for the daily science warmup.) I then asked
the magic 8-ball. I would get real dramatic, and ask, "Should I grade the warmups today?" and then I would shake it and look at the answer. If the 8 ball said yes, I collected; if not, I didn't. This way the kids always knew that it COULD be graded any day, and they loved seeing if today would be the day. You can collect them when you know you have an easy night or weekend ahead of you.

By the way, when I graded them, I just checked for date, copy down question, and try to answer. I didn't check every single day for correctness. I just wanted participation.

Kind of silly, but it worked for me!
