I agree!

Clip to ScrapBook
I can identify with the previous post--I used to work hard to get third graders comfortable with cursive and by the end of the year required them to write most of their assignments in cursive. (I added one subject a month
after Christmas.) This was a real struggle for some children.

When I discovered the upper grade teachers did not even care if the children wrote in cursive, it made me feel maybe I shouldn't be requiring it in third grade. For some of those who struggled, it was a real trial.

I have read that there is no place in adult life that you are required to use cursive except your name.

What do all the legal documents say? "Please print!"

I always teach cursive and we practice getting letters and formation correct. (Most actually love to do this!!) But I have been more lenient in actually requiring them to use it. In this day and age isn't keyboarding a more essential skill???
