"The Read Aloud Handbook" is one of the books I am glad I HAD to buy in college. I still refer back to it occasionally.
Before I start actually reading the story, I go over the cover of the book and cue some thoughts and| ideas from the children--predicting the events, characters, what kind of story it will be, etc. I also go over the title and ask why they think that title was chosen for the book. Then I introduce the author, illustrator, publisher and publication place. My k children really got the hang of this and if I ever forgot to mention a detail, they would let me know (who's the illustrator? is | |
the publication place New York?) It was great! From there, I start the story. When I am reading a story and someone interrupts or talks without raising their hand, I stop reading completely until it is quiet again. They quickly get the idea. Hope this helps.
