open concept
By maryellen

Clip to ScrapBook
I taught Gr 2 for 3 years in an open concept school in the 70's. It wasn't that bad, really. We had the flexibility to open up the space when we needed more room. The staff in my area of the building worked together very
well, and even doing some team teaching was easy because we could just roll the dividers over and share the space. We (students and I) adjusted to the low noise level very quickly. You have to be mindful of your own voice level mind you. And remember this - others (parents, admin) can, and did, listen in on your lesson without your knowing it, from just around the corner. This is
not necessarily a bad thing, it just keeps you aware and on your toes. It was a good experience for me, I still need to work with my door open all the time, unless I'm turning the music up. But I should mention that I hear my old school has now built walls in most spaces.
