Teaching DI
By Heather

Clip to ScrapBook
I, too, teach 2nd grade and use D.I. We have been using it for four years now. Although it can seem repetitive and sometimes boring, I must say that it works! My going to have more than one reading group than you will
have to have other activities to engage your other students who are not in group. This is when I use centers, group activities, and other literature activities.

You can also use the time that you would normally spend creating your reading lessons to make your science/social studies lessons truly creative.

At first it was difficult for some of the teachers in our school to stick with

the routine but it truly made a difference in the confidence of our children. We have even started using D.I. math. Of course, we use other activites with it. I think the teachers that rely solely on DI for their day WILL def. become bored. But those that implement other things along with the DI will truly see the benefits.
