First day in grade 2
By Robin

Clip to ScrapBook
Dawn, things will probably take longer than you think! Here are some other things to try. You can make a blank bingo card and have the children select classmates' names for the spaces. You can call the first game, and then
the winner can call. I have also used a sheet with a number of squares on it. In each, I have written a description, and the students have to find a classmate who fits the category. For example, "Find a student who has a dog". Each child can only sign the grid once, so students are encouraged to talk to other classmates for the info. I have made word searches with the students' names on
them. We also choose books from the classroom library, and the children have the opportunity to read quietly. Second graders can have a hard time sitting for the full school day in the beginning, so you might want to take a tour of the school and/or practice a fire drill to "get moving" a bit. Good luck, and have a great year!
