Structure and organization
By David

Clip to ScrapBook
Betsy, do you know the sub and your para's? Do you have a supportive administration? My suggestions are: request funding to meet with the sub and para's before school to outline your behavior management approach - levels
of intervention in dealing with misbehavior, structured and spontaneous reinforcement, backup in dealing with agressive behavior, etc. Second, write each of the kids one or more letters before school introducing yourself and explaining the situation. If appropriate, visit the kids and their families to enlist their support. Finally, set up a communication channel between families and
school that can easily be implemented by others. Despite all of your best intentions, it is bound to be a bumpy start. Your administrative staff should be frequent visitors to the class, especially during "good" times to reinforce appropriate class behavior. And you should visit with your new addition as often as possible. And then you should sit back and enjoy those first days of motherhood - they pass so fast - without worrying about your classroom. Kids are adaptive as long as the adults are consistent, fair, and reasonable. Best wishes, Dave
